Returning ALL Books!

Students, it is time to make sure you have returned all your library books.  Especially if you are in the 8th Grade, you want to be eligible for graduation and other special activities.  Please get all materials in so Ms. Whelpton can do year-end library inventory.  Don't forget to look at the summer reading lists under Good Links before you go to your local public library this summer!

CST TIME!

Students, congratulations on your positive attitude toward the CST!  Belvedere students are taking it seriously, doing their best, and visualizing themselves moving up a level this year.  YOU ARE AWESOME!  Everything that is worthwhile is a little difficult and takes a stick-to-it attitude and perseverance. Give us FIVE!

April 18th is Poem in Your Pocket Day!

Come to the library to print a great poem to have in your pocket on April 18th, to read to ANYONE you see!  Everyone is going to share poetry here, there and everywhere on Poem in Your Pocket Day.  Look out for special surprises, and don't forget to read a poem at least one student and one adult you haven't really talked to before! There are good links for poetry on Ms. Whelpton's Good Links, right hand side of this library blog. 

Thanks for the Successful Buy One Get One Free Bookfair!

Thank you to all who stopped by to get bargains at the Buy One Get One Free Bookfair from Scholastic.  We got bargains galore, and lots of new books for the library.  Special thanks to the parents who supervised and the teachers who brought their classes.  Belvedere knows not only that readers are leaders, but that READING IS FUN!!

Theme Poster Contest Extended!!!

Our poster contest has been extended and you will be able to bring your posters in to the library up until FRIDAY, MARCH 1ST!  Win a beautiful new book donated by THE MOLINA FOUNDATION by just creating a neat poster about a book with the title, author, THEME and an illustration depicting the theme.  Best 10 get 8 gig USB drives. GET BUSY!

Poster Contest!

Students, are you jealous of your friends who have won a book for reading 5 books? You can earn your own free new book by entering our poster contest!  We are having a poster contest to help decorate the library (your work could be on display!),  and to review the idea of THEME in the literature you are reading.  We have all studied that every story has an idea the author is trying to tell us about life or experience, and the poster must express the book's theme. 
RULES:  Must have the TITLE  and AUTHOR, WORDS ABOUT THE THEME, AT LEAST ONE PICTURE ABOUT THE THEME, POSITIVE WORDS TO PERSUADE SOMEONE ELSE TO READ THE BOOK, some COLOR or VERY CONSCIENTIOUSLY drawn black and white.  Every carefully created poster will receive a prize, and the top ten winners will receive USB drives.  The top ten will be judged by leadership.  You can get paper in the library and work on it in the library before school, at lunch and after school this Thursday.   GET STARTED, THEY ARE DUE BY VALENTINE'S DAY, FEBRUARY 14TH!!

Spring Bookfair...

Spring Bookfair dates for Scholastic Buy One Get One Free Bookfair:  3/14/13-3/21/13, Thursday-Thursday.  It's never too early to start saving money for an excellent bargain!

A BIG Thank You to all the history, special ed, and science teachers who brought their classes to the library for the Scholastic Bookfair.  Thanks also to the many kind and generous parents who made it possible to be open for lunch by coming to supervise.  Belvedere loves books, and we all had a lot of fun, as well as getting some wonderful new things to read and to share.  Many of our students bought books and cool school supplies  for lucky family members and friends. Many were disappointed to see it go, but be on the lookout for news of another bookfair coming before Easter, and it will be BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE!
